Why the disclaimer
The standard verbiage covers the four things that matter: confidentiality and intended-recipient notice, instructions for misdirected mail, a no-guarantee statement on email transmission and viruses, and separation of the author's views from the company's. It's best practice and expected in professional services — but note it's a deterrent and evidence of intent, not a substitute for the access controls and encryption the rest of this host provides.
